Altars as Ritual and Practice

This month, guest facilitator Kira Buckley will be leading us in altar building and reverence as we explore unique ways of creating a practice.

More on Kira:

Kira Buckley is a ceremonialist, integrative healing practitioner, writer, and guide of embodied wisdom whose work lives at the meeting place of ritual, remembrance, and restoration. Rooted in clinical herbalism, sacred somatic practice, ancestral devotion, and intuitive spiritual care, she creates spaces that help people return to themselves with reverence and truth.

Through her work, Kira invites others to see altar building as more than decoration or tradition. For her, an altar is a living relationship—a place of prayer, reflection, beauty, grief, gratitude, and power. It is a sacred meeting point between the visible and invisible, the personal and ancestral, the body and spirit.

In this workshop, she brings both practical guidance and soulful presence, helping participants approach altar creation as a meaningful practice of intention, connection, and self-honoring. Her facilitation style is grounding, intuitive, and rich with story, making space for each person to build in a way that feels spiritually resonant, culturally respectful, and deeply their own.

the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level.

Welcome to COMMUNION, a monthly gathering space for Black women to be seen, celebrated, heard, and most importantly, WITNESSED. This is an ode to the Black woman. A living, breathing space where healing, dialogue, and joy permeate the air.

COMMUNION was born from the foundation of The Ayaba Series- a sacred healing space for women of color, with the emphasis on Black women, that promoted the ability to thrive. Ayaba began in 2016 in DC and concluded in 2024 in Los Angeles. With the growing need for community spaces in LA, especially for Black women, COMMUNION came about. It is reminiscent of Black women gathering in each other’s homes after church on Sundays or for social club meetings in the 1950s and beyond.

Every month, an intimate group of women will gather in a host’s home. The gathering will include fellowship, small bites, tea, and curated themed activities around individual and collective healing, open dialogue, and more. Your ticket contributes to refreshments and florals. Please note that spaces are very limited. Once your ticket is purchased, you will receive an email the day before the gathering with the host’s address. Please do not share the addresses of hosts. Tickets are limited to ONE per person. You must show proof of ticket purchase before entering to ensure safety and confidentiality.
